Default PVP X imo

I know that many people are excited about this event and are happy that anet is trying to rebalance pvp, but lets look at this for what it really is. A LURE FOR MORE GRIND. I'm not saying i'm not happy with the event, but to me it fell short of what Iwanted, a pvp that pre unlocked everything for the character.

For all you pve'ers that may cry foul( don't know why but here's some reasons why u shouldn't) :

1. Rpg is just grind. You play it for the storyline.

2. grind= uber weapons and fancy clothes. those for you that don't think that this is true think about the weapons that is not abled to be aquired in pvp.:
weps- +15% (always) -10 armor( or the unconditional one if bought this game early enough)
Shields +30 health(always)
Staves & wands- 10% recarge and casting(anything)

There has been many posts about how this game is time>skill, sry if this is just another one.But seriously anet, just unlock everything for the pvp char.

opinions are welcomed. if your going to flame please leave reasons why u think this would be a bad idea not just one or two word posts. thank you.

If PvP players faced only PvP players than fine, open everything up. But I don't think it would be very fair for my character with less than optimal gear to join the PvP ranks and being destroyed by every player with perfect equipment.

Also the rarity of acquiring a 15>50 (think I've had 1 in 500+ hours) to be just handed over to any new PvP player would make me cringe.

Often PvE players ask what they're to do once they finish the final mission. Most people suggest PvP, but I could imagine they would get bored of it fairly quickly.

So you can't get the best weapons for PvP. Hence what Anet say, 'skill, not time spent'. If you're skilled, you can beat the face of the owner of that maxed weapon into the ground.

If you're not skilled, however, you come here and complain that you haven't got those weapons because you believe they make a massive impact on PvP. They don't. My RPG character goes into PvP Arena's and Tombs usually carrying items worse than the PvP ones.

The way i see it: Rewards:

PvP: Fame/Rank and Faction.
RPG: Items, gold, and other things worthless in PvP.

Unlocking all skills for PvP characters would spoil some of the reward for winning. If you start with everything, PvP would become quite boring, quite quickly.

IMO

reasons

1. this unlock things gradually (it is an RPG you know with character PROGRESSION) was planned at the very start.

2. that means before the game was announced, before the BWE ,before there WERE *pve carebears*

3. this is a developer decision and not a PVE howl that created it and UAS was a rather unfortunate beta test to see how high level (ultimately unlocked) characters would be like

DONT BLAME THE PVE PLAYERS THAT YOU DONT HAVE UAS/X

if the developers find a way to give it to you without destroying THEIR plans for the game i will be the first to cheer for you.

until then ..........

+15(always) - 10 armor is the worst innate modifier in the game. If you can't see why...you should stop playing the game.

nailz that mod was jusrt an example of what wep mods that are not available in pvp, i did not put it was "uber awsome" or anything. and read the post this isn't about the wepons in pvp. just that the skills should be unlocked.

1) 90% of the weapons/items that people thing are "UBER" are truly worthless awful weapons/items

2) UAS is the worst possible idea. I know the PvP crowd wants to remove the grind.....go play counter strike, there is no grind. You are playing an RPG...even if all you do is PvP it's still an RPG...play PvP, get faction, unlock your skills. Giving PvP players UAS makes it nearly impossible for PvE players that want to try PvP when they get bored with the storyline to even pretend to compete. Stop begging arenanet to change the game...play the game the way it is.

that is the exact opposite of what the weekend is about. there are people that have been playing this game for a few weeks. with the weekend they can now catch up to those who have been playing since release. the point is you grind for a solid 3 days so you don't have to grind for another month to unlock pvp. this is reduceing grind not a "lure to grind." you are just upset because you have already unlocked everything for pvp and you get no advantage of the weekend. if you unlocked everything the weekend wasn't made with you in mind. so get over and enjoy the more competition out there i know i'm loving it. about time i see real players using all kinds of classes. i've seen more warriors in the past 2 days then i've seen in the past 2 months. i like seeing the smiting monks run rampant. the meses shattering and locking down. the rangers filling my screen with dmg from multiple hits. this is how the game was intended but we've all be acustomed to the NR mentality. you either play with it or play against it. not the case anymore. i've even seen healing ball come back and dominate alot of other builds.

Do you have any idea how stupid that arguement is? Take a look at the exact same arguement just flipped around.

I know the PvE crowd wants grind, but you are playing Guild Wars a PvP oriented RPG without the grind (look on the box.) Even if all you do is run around all day and kill monsters in PvE the game is still a PvP oriented RPG. All the grind does is make it impossible for PvP characters to compete with the PvE grind junkies and drive them away. If you want to grind go play Everquest.

Unfortunately, your opinion is wrong. They are many other pvp games out there where you start out with every skill/weapon/ whatever available to you and those games are still very popular even though most are over 5 years old. (in fact a 6 year old game with bad graphics where you can get every item in about 5-10 minutes happens to be the most popular game in the world) Its the pve games that are popular for a few months, you beat the game and then move on. Remember that legend of zelda game for n64? was the craze back then, sold millions of copies. How many play it now? RPG's with no new content die quickly. Pvp games last way longer. Perhaps you should not post on topics you dont know much about. You dont see me going into the RP boards preaching about the history of roleplaying do you?

Moral of the story, competition never dies.

Perhaps if you want to pvp you should not run in with your "cool-looking-and-thats-about-it" pve character like an (dare i say it?) ididoth.

MAKE A PVP CHARACTER IF YOU WANT TO PVP. PvP is about even and fair competition. (something you know very little about) If you going to hadicap yourself because you want black dye in pvp dont come crying to me.

this weekend was pretty close to a UAS for many people. I am down to about 30 skills as of sunday morning and at least half of those are pet skills, they are all skills I just don't see me playing.

The fact that ANet did this crazy weekend with the removal of the guild hop penalty leads me to believe that they will do it again so I am not at all worried about the grind factor anymore.

I am also very optimistic from what I have read from the various Anet reps that we can expect a permament increased faction rate sometime soon.

I looked on the box and I never found "Guild Wars is a PvP oriented RPG without the grind" (sorry, had to add the "is" to make it grammatically correct, because it's under the assumption of being on a box and they wouldn't sell a product that doesn't has goodly grammar)

Here's everything I found on the box:
"Free Online Play*"
"Online Gaming has a New Champion"
"In a world fraught with conflict..."
"Where the human kingdoms are all but destroyed..."
"Where guilds wage constant war for the Hall of Heroes..."
"The call for a hero has sounded. Will it be you?"
"Enjoy free online play with the security of gameplay hosted on ArenaNet servers. Explore a world that dynamically grows and changes with new content while you play."

"Craft Your Hero"
"Create your avatar from over thirty different profession combinations and hundreds of uniques skills that combine for escalating power."

"It's Your Adventure"
"Jump right into a world of thousands where each mission is created just for you. Live a fast paced adventure without travel time delay, high death penalties, or spawn camping. Join with friends or play solo with a band of skillful henchmen."

"Be The Best"
"Ascend as a team to the highest levels of competition, a truly global tournament to control the Hall of Heroes. World fame and fortune await the victors.

"A Monk resurrects his ally in Ascalon"
"A Warrior seeks ascension in the Crystal Desert"
"A Warrior battles a Drake in Kryta"
"The Hall of Heroes"

"Prove Your Worth in a World Where Skill Decides"
"Your Skill Will Be Your Legend"
"You'll prove your worth with every battle as skill, not hours played, decides your fate. Whether battling horrific monsters or competing at the highest levels of tournament play, it will always be your skill that earns you victory or defeat."

"Are you up to the challenge?"

"Anticipate Your Opponents"
"Each Attack has signature sound and look. Learn attack cues to gain the advantage."

"Lead Through Action"
"Communicate targets and initiate strategic attacks without typing. Interface automatically alerts your team of your actions."

"Multiply Your Power"
"Combine Skills from two professions, link htem yourself or chain them with a teammate's skills to devastate your enemies."

"A Deadly Combination"
"Strike with a hamstring attack to cripple your fleeing opponent, then rain fire down upon him as he slowly limps away."

"Strategy in Realtime"
"Coordinate team assaults on the fly to outmaneuver your opponents."

"I am attacking a Bone Dragon. Hit "T" to select my target!"

Then there's all the legal stuff and game reqs. Nothing about a PvP driven RPG.

note that being an RPG was from the company and not my opinion that it was an RPG with CHARACTER PROGRESSION which is the opposite of UAS/X playing

secondly if you want to be in friendly company flaming *carebear pvers* The Guild Hall is getting a rep for that

Grind is part of GW, even though it was explicitly promised it never would be.

The best we can hope for is keep demanding as little of it as possible.

After this weekend ends the PVP will once again go comatose until the faction rebalance happens... but the question is will the faction rebalance, outside a of a marketing event, be popular and successful enough to give PVP life? I'm somewhat skeptical. This event is fun, but once the long haul is before everyone again (besides gvg gankers, who like rune and chest farmers very early on once again get hundreds of hours of free unlock that other people won't get) people will see it's too much and unfair again.

I honestly think they need to think the template idea out more... like give you the option to make a template character out of any skills.

Shifting the templates around with a little more frequency is an excellent idea, as is adding more templates. I've spent just a little time playing with some of the templates; some of them work, others are just kinda limp.

Of course it may just be I'm not as experienced playing a necromancer or a ranger, and the templates could be fine. But having more is always good.

yes, this weekend was nearly a UAS for me. Every monk, warrior, mesmer, ranger skill is unlocked, missing a few ele skills and a few necro skills. Every rune unlocked and just about every weapon modifier is unlocked now. I've spend prolly around 150k faction so far.

This weekend was deffinately a great idea.

I missed out because I had to work all weekend. The short notice was not cool. Anyways we need a long term permannet fix of faction rates. After this weekend so many people will have a lot more skills and I won't - less motivation to play.
